Antique Belgian Mahogany Chiffonier Serving Sideboard

An ornate Belgian sideboard in amazing condition.

We are delighted to bring to you this very rare example of an early (circa 1830) chiffonier serving sideboard which originates from Belgium and is in superb original condition. The sideboard features its original ornate shaped skilfully carved acanthus leaf back which makes a bold statement in any room (can be removed via 4 screws if necessary).

This heavy sideboard is made from all solid Mahogany with the top being a single slab of Mahogany with no joints or splits. To the underside of the top are 2 striking drawers with deep moulded edges which beautifully frames the most ornate carved and shaped Mahogany handles. The fantastic quality drawers are lined in European Ash with a dovetailed construction, are clean inside and operate smoothly.

Also making a statement are a pair of ornately carved barley twists which pivot from the top and the bottom and form the hinges to the cupboard doors. The cupboard doors feature applied relief carvings of the highest competence with a beautifully shaped slam strip between. The left door latches at the bottom and the right locks via its original brass lock with key and keyhole escutcheon.

Unlocking and opening the cupboard doors reveals the 5 serving tray drawers which are solid Mahogany constructed (with an Ash bottom) with fine mitred dovetails and handles either side. The trays are in 2 sizes with 2 larger ones being on the right and operate smoothly. Alone the trays are beautiful quality antiques in themselves.

The sideboard stands on a simple plinth base with hidden shepherds castors to the underside which are not original to the piece but have been added due to the items heavy weight.

This chiffonier is in an outstanding original condition featuring its original beautiful glazed french polished finish with a deep rich Mahogany colour.

We have carefully cleaned and waxed this sideboard, maintaining its original patina whilst giving a lovely natural sheen.

Please note; This item is in fantastic condition for its age as shown by the photographs below. Being an antique item of this age there are obviously marks, scratches and dents, however, we feel that these points are which adds to its charm and character to a piece.

Also note, the rear up-stand is removable and will be removed for delivery to protect it (re-attached via 4 screws).
