Product Description

Original Antique "F.WHITFIELD & Co" Fully Restored Luxury safe.

A rare Whitfields safe in a stunning fully restored working condition.

We bring to you this very rare excellent condition "Whitfield" Patent steel safe made in Birmingham by the maker Frederick Whitfield of Viaduct works, Oxford Street, Birmingham in around C1890. This fantastic quality and very secure safe is truly a museum piece and has had no expense spared in its 'nut & bolt' full restoration completely carried out in house by Lincoln Restorations.

This lovely safe features original specification paintwork featuring 2 tone colours to match original colours and design. The safe is finished in predominantly Burgundy with a black door frame. The paintwork is single stage paint (not lacquered) exactly as it would have been originally. The safe is complemented by the ornate traditionally hand-painted red coloured coach lines which elegantly frames the door and hinges exactly as it would have been. This safe has been fully restored from bare metal, having been stripped and linished to ensure the highest quality refurbishment possible. The lovely original brasswork has then been highly polished.

This safe features its manufacturer's polished brass plaque of 'F. WHITFIELD & Co SAFE & DOOR MANUFACTURER BIRMINGHAM', complemented by a red painted background which matches the coach lines. The amazing solid brass handle reminds us of a bolt action rifle as the mechanism is sturdy and has a satisfying latching action in a smoothly working order. The external lock is working smoothly with 2 keys and the brass keyhole escutcheon has a lovely sliding lid with the words 'F. WHITFIELD & Co's LEVER LOCK' cast into the lid which elegantly covers the keyhole when not in use. This safe also has a large polished brass handle, to aid opening the heavy secure door.

The inside of the safe has been re painted to exactly match the original colour. This safe unusually is complete with its original paper transfer plaque and is in clean fantastic and easily readable condition, mentioning their past achievements. This safe also unusually has a removable centre division which is ideal for storing larger items if needed. The safe also has 2 internal secure locking drawers with red coach-lines to the front and features their original polished brass dropper handles and keyhole escutcheons. For extra security the 2 drawers are individually keyed and are complete with 2 keys each (4 in total).

To match the exterior our upholstery department has made high quality burgundy full grain leather removable liners to the shelf and inside each drawer to keep your valuables and the safe itself protected from scratches or damage when items are stored inside.

This safe is ideal for storing important paperwork, house deeds, birth certificates, passports, cash, jewellery or anything else of value and is obviously rather safe. This safe would look fabulous in a loft style apartment or vintage themed home and would certainly be an interesting talking point for guests. This item could also be used as a small coffee table with storage.

Please note; This item is in very good condition for its age but will obviously have the odd blemish and scuff here and there. However, we feel that this adds to the charm and authenticity of the item with it being Antique.
