Product Description

Antique George III Kneehole Desk

A very rare Georgian kneehole desk.
We are delighted to bring to you a very rare 18th Century Georgian (George III) Kneehole desk of small proportions in Mahogany around C1790.

This desk has a figured Mahogany top above its quite unusual pull out writing surface, complete with a full grain blue leather blind tooled writing skiver which is in great condition. The desk has 8 deep drawers including a full width top drawer with a secret drawer below in the kneehole frieze. To the back of the kneehole is a lovely little cupboard, complete with a shelf inside, its original lock and escutcheon. The cupboard door and all drawer locks are all working Georgian warded locks, complete with original keys. The top drawer and 2 drawers on the right pedestal are locked with a separate key (these locks have been replaced with original Georgian locks at some point). The drawers have cock-beaded edges (none missing), are dovetail constructed and all smoothly operate, with no considerable drawer wear. Each drawer is complete with its lightly polished brass plate dropper handles (the handles have been replaced at some point) and keyhole escutcheons with rosetta brass pulls to the writing surface slide. The desk terminates to its rather lovely twin pedestal shaped bracket feet.

This small yet very useful desk would look fantastic in a country cottage and is ideal in any period office/study or could even be used in a bedroom as a small dressing table. The drawers are ideal for storing laptops, paperwork and other home office oddments with the bonus of being able to lock all of the drawers.

This lovely desk is complete with its original wax polished finish with its idillic deep Mahogany colour with lots of beautifully worn patina and character. We have sympathetically restored this item maintaining original patina by just carefully waxing this item to enhance the French polished surface and preserve it for many years to come.

Please note; This item is in great condition for its age as shown by the photographs, however, being an antique item of this age there may be minor blemishes here and there which we feel adds to its originality and heritage of the piece.Items placed on or around this item are not included in the sale

I bought a restored Victorian table from here. When it arrived, it was wrapped incredibly well in bubble wrap, and had obviously been recently polished. It was immaculate. Friendly service, and a good price. Would definitely use again.
