Antique Georgian Mahogany Chest of 5 Drawers
An exceptional condition original chest of drawers.
We are delighted to bring to you this fine example of a rare Georgian (circa 1840) 5 deep descending drawer chest of drawers. This stunning chest of drawers features the finest fiddle back grain Mahogany to all of the sides and the drawer fronts which are framed with cock-beaded edges (none missing). The chest is very unusually complete with all of its original lightly polished brass knobs (never been replaced) which are in the shape of a tulip with a fluted rear, the chest also retains its original warded locks (no keys) behind its brass escutcheons. The pretty chest is embellished with ebony strung inlays around the top edge and lower apron which finishes to typical Georgian shaped bracket legs. This simple yet elegant chest of drawers is in an outstanding condition featuring its original wax polished finish with a lovely lightly faded Mahogany colour. The finely dovetailed drawers are particularly clean inside and the drawers are smoothly operating.
The chest has been sympathetically restored in our workshop so is solid with no loose joints or wobbles and is free from woodworm. The drawers have had some of the drawer runners replaced and rebuilt as necessary so now have little to no wear and do not drop when opened. The chest of drawers has been carefully revived, cleaned and waxed, maintaining its original patina whilst giving a lovely natural sheen and the handles have been lightly polished. This lovely restored chest of drawers is in home ready condition and is fit for every day use for many more years to come.
Please note; This item is in fantastic condition for its age as shown by the photographs below. Being an antique item of this age there are obviously marks, scratches and dents, however, we feel that these points are which adds to its charm and character to a piece.
