An exceptionally rare yet simple Georgian Tray Top Serving Table.
We are delighted to offer this stunning condition extremely rare Georgian (circa 1790s's) Mahogany tray top serving table ideal for a period dining room for serving off or by a serving hatch. This multipurpose table is also ideal as a hall table or a lamp table as it is narrow and not too intrusive.
We are very lucky to have found this early rare tray top table from a farmhouse clearance in such good original condition with the most beautiful original lightly faded mahogany colour and original patina. The table has obviously been really cared for all of its life, the original wax finish on this table has been built up to a natural gloss over the long period since the table was made and looks exceptional for it. This is not a finish you can get quickly and it is very rare to come across an item which has been so well looked after and preserved. The wax finish is also the most durable finish if built up like this one as many marks and scuffs can be buffed out or slightly more severe ones may be removed by adding more furniture or beeswax.
This lovely early table unusually features 1 centre dummy drawer (which we cannot figure out why!) flanked by a working drawer either side with simple turned knobs and are framed by all of the original cock-beading which is rare to see on any antique. The finely dovetailed drawers are smoothly operating and clean inside ready for use. This table stands on 4 beautifully turned mahogany legs in a typical Georgian style finishing to a lower pot shelf ideal for displaying ornaments or other antiquities.
We have sympathetically restored this item maintaining all of the original patina and age by just carefully cleaning and waxing this item to preserve and protect the item whilst giving it a lustrous natural sheen.
Please note this item is in superb condition for its age but will have the odd blemish here and there, for example, the table has various stains in some area's (pictured), however, we feel that adds to the charm and heritage of the item with it being such an old antique.
