This is a marvellous example of a simply elegant Regency sofa table believed to be made around 1800, this table features the ability to extend via 1 drop leaf along the length, which is rare as most sofa tables from this period are drop ends either side.
This totally original table stands on a shaped 2 columns with centre cross support finishing to 4 curved sabre legs standing on its original solid polished brass lions claw castors. There are many possibilities for the layout of this table with configurations such as behind a sofa, along the wall in a large hallway or even in a dining room as a serving table.
The fantastic table features flame grain mahogany and a lovely lightly faded original colour with old surface markings and stains which give a great life story to this fine table. We have just cleaned and waxed to give a natural shine and enhance the surface.
This table has obviously been really cared for all of its life, the original wax finish on this table has been built up to a gloss over the long period since the table was made and looks exceptional for it. This is not a finish you can get quickly and it is rare to come across an item which has been so well looked after and preserved. The wax finish is also one of the most durable finishes if built up like this one as many marks and scuffs can be buffed out or slightly more severe ones may be removed by adding more furniture wax.
This item is in an outstanding condition for its age as shown by the photographs below. Being an antique item of this age there are obviously marks, scratches and dents, however, we feel that these points are which adds to its charm and character so we have left it untouched as it came in from the previous owner and have just cleaned and waxed this item.
