The finest Cuban flame grain mahogany tilt table.
We are delighted to be able to bring to you the finest example of an early Victorian flame grain Cuban Mahogany tilt top table believed to be made between 1850 - 1860. This is the nicest unmolested example of a Victorian tilt top table we have seen to date. This almost flawless table has been cherished and is in fantastic original condition with the original french polished finish and slightly faded colour with lots of patina and charm. The stunning table top stands on its substantially large carved central pillar down to a long grain turned apron, sitting on top of its elegantly carved central leg boss with 3 beautifully hand shaped and carved cabriole legs on its original solid brass castors. Unusually for a tilt top table and as a sign of the condition and quality of this table, there is no movement or play in the mechanism as the table is being normally used, the solid mahogany top is flat with no bowing or twisting and the latch smoothly operates.
This table has a small overall form factor yet is versatile from having a round shaped top managing to accommodate up to 4-6 chairs and be used as a formal dining room or breakfast table. Already not taking up too much room because of this shape, the top tilts upright for storage with its original quality brass latch and brass table screws and has brass castors making it a breeze to move between rooms or store out of the way. This item is in an incomparable condition for its age as shown by the photographs below however being an antique item of this age there may be minor blemishes here and there which adds to its originality and heritage.
