Original Fully Restored "RATNER" Bent Steel Luxury Safe.
A highly regarded Ratner safe in a stunning working fully restored condition.
We bring to you this one off bespoke example of a very rare "Ratner" quality patent 12 corner bent steel plate safe made in London in around C1910-1930.
Formed in 1890 Ratner safes are arguably the highest quality safes in the industry and are still in business to this day. One of the early innovations that Ratner brought to the industry was the twelve corner bent safe. The outer shell was made from a single piece of steel, which gave great inherent strength. There's lots more information available online about the history and provenance of Ratner safes.
This bespoke safe features its lovely triple tone rich Maroon, metallic deep gold and black exterior which we have created in theme with its original design. The safe has then been finished with a high gloss lacquer. This safe is complemented by the maroon and gold panel design to each side of the safe with gold embellishments to the hinges. This safe has been fully restored from bare metal, having been stripped and linished to ensure the highest quality refurbishment possible. The inside has been re-painted in a beige colour that closely matches the original complete with its original untouched transfer to the back of the door and gold fronts to the drawers which match the exterior. The safes paint has then been waxed to protect the paintwork, the lovely original brass and chromed fittings have then been highly polished.
This safe features its manufacturer's polished finely brass chromed plaque of 'PATENT RATNER LONDON FIRE RESISTING SAFE'. The amazing solid polished brass chromed handle reminds us of a bolt action rifle as the mechanism is sturdy and has a satisfying latching action in a smoothly working order. The external lock is working smoothly with 2 keys and the brass chromed keyhole escutcheon has a lovely lift up lid with the words 'RATNER SAFES' cast into the lid which elegantly covers the keyhole when not in use. This safe also has 2 internal secure locking drawers complete with 2 working keys, original polished brass dropper handle and brass lock.
Inside the safe we have also added maroon full grain leather removable liners to keep your valuables and the safe itself protected from scratches or damage when stored inside.
This safe is ideal for storing important paperwork, house deeds, birth certificates, passports, cash, jewellery or anything else of value and is obviously rather safe. This safe would look fabulous in a loft style apartment or vintage themed home and would certainly be an interesting talking point for guests. This item could also be used as a small coffee table with storage.
