Product Description

Antique Arts & Crafts Walnut Bookcase Cabinet

A quality and unusual Arts & Crafts bookcase cabinet in an amazing original condition.
This is a superb example of a solid walnut Arts & Crafts bookcase cabinet, beautifully showcasing its age and quality through a rich, original French polished finish and exceptional attention to detail.

The cabinet is divided into two parts: an upper glazed bookcase and a substantial lower cupboard base. The upper section features a pair of doors with their original hand-floated glass set in leaded panes, each incorporating an intact tear-drop amber glass detail—a true mark of originality, as none of the panes have been broken or repaired. The interior is highly functional, fitted with 3 infinitely adjustable and removable shelves lined with their original Rexine blind-tooled shelf edges held with brass studs, an authentic and attractive period feature. The carcass of the upper cabinet features a moulded detail that flanks the top cabinet doors, adding vertical elegance to the piece. Capping the piece is an elegant dental moulding on the cornice.

The lower section provides ample storage, consisting of two drawers featuring fine dovetail construction and a pair of locking cupboard doors with handsome fielded panelled centres framed with detailed moulding. Inside the lower cupboard is a central, removable strong shelf which adds to its versatility. Throughout the piece, its quality is underscored by the working condition of all its original locks with original key and brass key escutcheons and the cabinet is complete with all of its original brass handles and hardware typical of the Art & Crafts style.

This cabinet has been sympathetically restored to preserve its original patina and charm, presenting a highly desirable and authentic antique piece.

Condition and Provenance As an antique, this cabinets shows signs of age and use. While in fantastic condition, expect minor marks consistent with historical pieces. This cabinet is of a great quality and is structurally sound, with no major damage that would detract from its beauty or functionality.

I bought a restored Victorian table from here. When it arrived, it was wrapped incredibly well in bubble wrap, and had obviously been recently polished. It was immaculate. Friendly service, and a good price. Would definitely use again.
