Original Antique Victorian bent steel safe.
An Antique steel plate safe in a stunning working condition.
We bring to you this very rare excellent restored condition Birmingham Safe Co Patent safe made from solid steel plate in the Victorian period around C1860.
This lovely safe features the original manufacturer's solid brass polished plate of 'BIRMINGHAM SAFE Co LTD FIRE & BURGLAR RESISTING SAFE MAKERS BIRMINGHAM'. The fantastic original solid polished brass handle reminds us of a bolt action rifle as the mechanism is solid and has a satisfying latch action in a smoothly working order. The external lock is working smoothly with 2 keys and the polished brass keyhole escutcheon has a sliding plate lid with the words 'IMPROVED INVIOLABLE LOCK' cast into the lid which covers the keyhole complimented by a lovely brass polished surround that says 'BENT STEEL FIRE & BURGLAR RESISTING'.
We have sympathetically restored this safe from bare metal and have repainted to its exact original burgundy colour and specification whilst maintaining original character with some slight metal patina. We have also recreated the original hand-painted yellow pinstriped lines, floral embellishments and we have carefully waxed this beautiful paintwork to give a natural shine whilst protecting the finish. We have also serviced the locking mechanism of this safe. The spectacular brass work is completely original and we have carefully polished it to a lovely sheen.
Inside the safe is a smaller secure locking jewelry drawer with the original working lock with 2 keys complemented by a polished brass dropper handle and yellow pin-striping to the drawer front. This safe also unusually features a removable shelf. This safe is ideal for storing important paperwork, house deeds, birth certificates, passports, cash, jewellery or anything else of value and is obviously rather safe.
This safe would look fabulous in a loft style apartment or vintage themed home and would certainly be an interesting talking point for guests. This item could also be used as a small coffee table with storage.
Please note; This item is in very good condition for its age but will have the odd blemish here and there however, we feel that this adds to the charm and authenticity of the item with it being antique.
Also note this item is very heavy (91kg), please see our delivery section near the end of our listing.
