Original Antique E. HIPKINS & Co Victorian Safe.

A stunning example of a HIPKINS antique safe in a fantastic original condition.

We bring to you this very rare excellent working condition 'E. HIPKINS & Co' Patent steel plate safe made in the late Victorian to early Edwardian period. From our research, we believe Edward Hipkins & co were producing safes from the 1870's from Kateshill Works, Dudley.

This lovely safe features the original manufacturer's round polished brass plaque of 'E. HIPKINS & Co KATESHILL WORKS DUDLEY' and features the national England 3 lions crest. We have fully restored this safe including hand-painting the exact replica of the original gold and red lining which had been unfortunately worn away over the years.

This safe is very grand and elegant with its dark green colour scheme with the door frame and hinges contrasting in black with elegant 2 tone red and gold fine line detailing to the front door. The fantastic original solid polished brass knob reminds us of a bolt action rifle as the mechanism is solid and has a satisfying latch action in a smoothly working order. The external lock is working smoothly with 2 keys (1 original with makers name, other could well be the original spare key). The ornate cast brass keyhole escutcheon has a lovely sliding brass plate lid covering the keyhole when not in use with the 3 lions England shield cast into the cover. Inside the safe is 1 secure locking drawer with the original working lock, polished brass dropper handle and 2 keys. This safe is ideal for storing important paperwork, house deeds, birth certificates, passports, cash, jewellery or anything else of value and is obviously rather safe. We have carefully cleaned, enhanced, waxed, and polished this safe to preserve and give it a lustrous natural shine maintaining the original patina.

This safe would look fabulous in a loft style apartment or vintage themed home and would certainly be an interesting talking point for guests. This item could also be used as a small coffee table with storage.

Please note; This item is in very good condition for its age but will obviously have the odd blemish and scuff here and there, however, we feel that this adds to the charm and authenticity of the item with it being antique.

We unusually have 2 of these Hipkins safes (one larger one smaller) in stock both in an almost identical restored condition, at the bottom of this listing are pictures of the 2 safes together.

Also note this item is very heavy (95kg), please see our delivery section near the end of our listing.
