Antique Early Victorian Mahogany Housekeeper's Cupboard, Bookcase Cabinet with Linen Press

A large very versatile bookcase cupboard, ideal for period properties.

We bring to you this fine example of an excellent condition early Victorian (circa 1840-1850) Mahogany housekeeper's cupboard unusually featuring a glazed top cabinet and a linen press chest of drawers beneath.

This lovely piece features a removable top display unit with 4 highly adjustable shelves (there are small brass hooks on the back panel) and lockable glazed doors (with original rippled glass) and lockable door complete with its original working lock and key. This spectacular top cabinet features half-turned fluted pillars to either side complemented by a shaped and moulded glass frame that matches the base cupboard and incorporates matching half turnings to the tops of all doors.

The bookcase cupboard stands on top of the base unit cupboard which has 2 secret moulded drawers opened only by unlocking (lock is working with key) the cupboard door and releasing the sprung wooden tags to the underside of the drawer. Behind the cupboard doors reveals 3 descending linen press drawers which offer a large storage capacity. The base features exactly a mirrored design of the top with half fluted turnings which finishes to splayed bracket feet incorporating fine fretwork to the under plinth.

This very rare cupboard has a stunning lightly faded Mahogany colour with the original French polish and finish with all of its original lustrous patina. We believe this cabinet may have been commissioned to be made as a one-off as we have never seen an item with the combination of a linen press and display bookcase cabinet. This makes it a very useful storage solution which is ideal for period large hallways or dining rooms, living areas.

The display unit/bookcase is removable for transportation/storage.

We have sympathetically restored this item maintaining the original patina and have carefully waxed it to preserve the finish and give it a lovely natural sheen whilst protecting the item.

Please note; This item is in fantastic condition for its age as shown by the photographs below. Being an antique item of this age there are obviously marks, scratches and dents, however, we feel that these points are which adds to its charm and character to a piece.
