Original Victorian carved tilt top Mahogany table.
We bring to you this fine example of a timeless Victorian solid Mahogany tilt top oval table believed to be made around C1880. This stunning table has been cherished as it is in fantastic original condition retaining its original French polished finish throughout, with its lightly faded original colour. The table exudes a charming and rich patina with light surface marks and scratches (pictured) that speak to its long history and authentic character.
The stunning moulded edge table top stands on its substantial beautifully turned base going to 4 proportionate beautifully shaped carved scroll cabriole legs which finishes to its original cast iron swivel castors. Unusually for a tilt top table and as a sign of the condition and quality of this table, there is little to no movement or play in the mechanism as the table is being normally used, the solid mahogany top is flat with no bowing or twisting and the snap latch smoothly operates.
This table has a small overall form factor yet is versatile from having an oval shaped top managing to very comfortably accommodate 4 chairs and be used as a formal dining room or breakfast table. Already not taking up too much room because of this shape, the top tilts upright for storage with its original quality brass latch and the top is removable via its 2 table screws with brass heads (we have replaced these).
We have sympathetically restored this item maintaining its original patina and carefully waxing this item to enhance the French polished surface and preserve it for many years to come, the table is in home ready condition.
Please note; Being an antique item of this age there are obviously marks, scratches and dents however, we feel that these points are which adds to its charm and character.
