Original Antique 'Thomas Skidmore & Son' Fireproof Safe.
An incredibly rare late Thomas Skidmore brand safe in a stunning working original condition.
We bring to you this very rare excellent fully restored condition Thomas Skidmore Brand Patent 12 corner Bent steel safe made in Wolverhampton around the 1890's - 1920's.
This lovely safe features black paintwork complemented by the green door panel that is embellished with ornate hand-painted red fine lines which elegantly frame the door. This safe has been fully re-painted from bare metal with colours that exactly match the original specification of the safe whilst leaving some slight metal patina. The safe has then been waxed to protect the paintwork and give a natural sheen and the lovely original brasswork has been highly polished.
The amazing solid brass handle reminds us of a bolt action rifle as the mechanism is sturdy and has a satisfying latching action in a smoothly working order. The external lock is working smoothly with 2 keys (1 original) and the brass keyhole escutcheon has a lovely sliding lid with a small knob to the centre which covers the keyhole. The escutcheon is surrounded by its manufacturer's polished brass plate that says 'THOMAS SKIDMORE & SON - FIRE & THEIF PROOF SAFE MAKERS - WOLVERHAMPTON' with a black painted background. This safe also features an extra solid polished brass handle to aid opening the heavy door.
Inside the safe features the original paint colour scheme which we have mixed and part blended into the original paint to keep the safe totally authentic. The inside of the door and the transfer is original and is the only part that hasn't been repainted, we have colour-matched and blended the surrounding areas to the original dark green colour and have repainted the lighter green colour to exactly match the original colour. The safe also has 2 internal secure locking drawers with red pinstriped lines inspired by the colour scheme of the exterior. For added security, the internal drawers are 4 lever locks and are individually keyed with 2 new keys per drawer complete with the original brass dropper handles and locks.
This safe is ideal for storing important paperwork, house deeds, birth certificates, passports, cash, jewellery or anything else of value and is obviously rather safe. This safe would look fabulous in a loft style apartment or vintage themed home and would certainly be an interesting talking point for guests. This item could also be used as a small coffee table with storage.
Please note; This item is in very good condition for its age but will obviously have the odd blemish and scuff here and there. However, we feel that this adds to the charm and authenticity of the item with it being Antique.
