Original Antique Victorian WHITFIELD Fireproof Safe.

An incredibly rare and original Antique WHITFIELD safe in a stunning working condition.

We bring to you this incredibly rare excellent condition 'WHITFIELD MAKER BIRMINGHAM' Patent fireproof safe made from solid steel plate in the Victorian period around C1860.

This spectacular safe features its original fully hand-painted oak graining (scumbled) to the whole exterior of the safe in a medium oak colour which has been done by a very skilled artisan. Very few safes were painted in this way and have survived. We have just done minor touch-ups to the paint where it has been damaged over the years and have just cleaned and waxed to protect the amazing original paintwork.

This Whitfield safe also features its ornate original manufacturer's brass polished plate that surrounds the brass keyhole escutcheon that says 'IMPREGNABLE FIRE-PROOF CHEST' on the belt which frames 'SAFE BIND SAFE FIND' and the manufacturer 'WHITFIELD MAKER BIRMINGHAM'.

The fantastic original solid polished brass and white porcelain handle reminds us of a bolt action rifle as the mechanism is solid and has a satisfying latching action in a smoothly working order. The external lock is working smoothly with 2 keys and the keyhole escutcheon has a lovely brass sliding lid to cover and protect the keyhole.

Opening the safe you are greeted by its lovely original green colour with 2 drawers that are hand-painted with the original woodgraining that matches the exterior of the safe. These drawers are complete with the original working brass polished locks with 2 keys and brass polished knobs. This safe is ideal for storing important paperwork, house deeds, birth certificates, passports, cash, jewellery or anything else of value and is obviously rather safe. We just cleaned and polished this safe to preserve and give a lustrous natural shine maintaining the original patina and signs of wear and age.

This safe would look fabulous in a loft style apartment or vintage themed home and would certainly be an interesting talking point for guests. This item could also be used as a small coffee table with storage.

Please note; This item is in very good condition for its age but will obviously have the odd blemish and scuff here and there however, we feel that this adds to the charm and authenticity of the item with it being antique.

Also note this item is very heavy (115kg), please see our delivery section near the end of our listing.
