Original Fully Restored "John Port" Fire Resistant Safe.
An incredibly rare John port safe in a stunning working fully restored condition.
We bring to you this one off example of a very rare "John Port no3" quality patent hand-formed steel safe made in Manchester in 1840. This immense quality and very secure safe is truly a museum piece and has had no expense spared in its restoration.
This lovely safe features original specification paintwork featuring 3 colours exactly matched to the original colours. We have pictures of this safe in its original condition to prove its provenance, supplied if interested. The safe is finished in predominantly dark brown with light burgundy to the inside door complete with black mouldings, hinges and main door frame. The glossy paintwork is hand-polished single stage paint (not lacquered) exactly as it would have been originally. The safe is complemented by the ornate traditionally hand-painted red coach lines which elegantly frames the door and hinges. This safe has been fully restored from bare metal, having been sandblasted and linished to ensure the highest quality refurbishment possible. The inside has been hand painted with colours that exactly match the original complete with the original john port stencils that we have just enhanced. The safes paint has then been polished to a deep shine and waxed to protect the paintwork, the lovely original brasswork has then been highly polished.
This safe features its manufacturer's polished finely cast brass plaque of 'JOHN PORT Patent safe manufacturers, Mill street Ancoats, Manchester, By Her Majesty's royal letters patent'. The amazing solid brass handle reminds us of a bolt action rifle as the mechanism is sturdy and has a satisfying latching action in a smoothly working order. The external lock is working smoothly with 2keys and the brass keyhole escutcheon has a lovely sliding lid with the English lion cast into the lid which elegantly covers the keyhole when not in use. Inside the safe features the original John Port stencilling for authenticity. The interior is painted in its colour matched striking red paint colour with black embellishments which match the exterior. The safe also has 2 individually keyed internal secure locking drawers complete paintwork to the front which is mimicking the exterior complete with 2 working keys with the original polished brass knobs and brass locks.
Inside the safe we have also added green baize removable liners to keep your valuables and the safe itself protected from scratches or damage when stored inside.
This safe is ideal for storing important paperwork, house deeds, birth certificates, passports, cash, jewellery or anything else of value and is obviously rather safe. This safe would look fabulous in a loft style apartment or vintage themed home and would certainly be an interesting talking point for guests. This item could also be used as a small coffee table with storage.
