Antique Victorian Mahogany Chest of 5 Drawers

A Victorian chest of drawers in truly outstanding condition.

We are delighted to bring to you the finest example of a rare Victorian (circa 1870) 5 deep descending drawer chest of drawers. This unusually high quality chest of drawers features the finest Flame grain book-matched Mahogany veneer to the drawer fronts with gracious patina throughout. This very elegant chest of drawers is in outstanding original condition and retains its original and highly sought after lightly faded Mahogany colour and beautifully warm French polished finish. The chest has lovely protruding drawer rails with curved front corners and a cross-banded Mahogany top fall edge. The chest retains its original turned Mahogany knobs with no breaks complete with mother of pearl centre inlays. The chest is also complete with its brass keyhole escutcheons to front its original brass lever locks (no keys). The drawers are made with Oak sides and unusually Teak bottoms and show their finely hand-cut dovetails on the sides when the drawers are opened. Unusually the drawers are remarkably clean inside and are very smoothly operating with little to no drawer wear without ever needing any repairs to the runners. The chest of drawers stands proudly on cross-banded plinth culminating to its wonderful turned bun legs.

We have carefully cleaned and waxed this chest, maintaining its original patina whilst giving a lovely natural sheen. The chest has been sympathetically restored and thoroughly checked over in our workshop so is solid with no loose joints or wobbles and has never had any woodworm.

Please note; This item is in fantastic condition for its age as shown by the photographs below. Being an antique item of this age there are obviously marks, scratches and dents, however, we feel that these points are which adds to its charm and character to a piece.
