Vintage Japanese Alter Table Made From Zelkova.

A charming Oriental Hall table.

We bring to you this outstanding Oriental Japanese alter table believed to be made in the 20th century.

From our research we believe this table is made from the Oriental hardwood called Zelkova which is part of the elm tree family. The timber is very hard, dense and is similar in appearance to rosewood. The Zelkova tree is apparently one which is used in the ancient art of bonsai tree training.

The table is very ornamental with lots of beautiful carvings to the underside and features scrolled raised ends in the typical Japanese style.

This very rare table is in a lovely original condition featuring stunning hand finished highly glazed polish which we have just enhanced by lightly waxing.

This table would be ideal to be used as a narrow hall table, sofa table or even to be used as a table for a large television. As this table is the same either side with mirrored carvings to both sides, this table could be placed in the centre of a room as a serving or buffet table.
