Antique Safe Cabinet with Fully Restored "Griffiths" Fire Resistant Safe Inside.
An extremely rare hidden safe in a bespoke cabinet.
We bring to you this one off example of a very rare safe cabinet which has been made to fully conceal a "Griffiths" Antique safe which has been fully restored to the highest quality. The safe inside is made by the well regarded Griffiths of cannon street, London and is a quality patent hand-formed steel safe made around the 1890's. This quality and secure safe in a cabinet is truly a museum piece and has had no expense spared in its creation and restoration. The cabinet has been fully stripped and re-polished to a light rich mahogany colour. The safe is not fixed in the cabinet and is removable but is obviously heavy.
The cabinet features fiddled back mahogany with a solid brass gallery top complete with a moulded edge to the top. The cabinet doors feature grecian style ebony inlay with book matched cross banded edges and are complemented by their solid polished brass ornate handles and keyhole escutcheon. The cabinet stands on a substantial heavy weight shaped bracket feet base.
The cabinet doors are lockable with 3 keys (1 original) and 2 solid brass inset shoot bolts on the left door. The doors hinged on strong piano hinges and open to reveal the antique Griffiths safe with hand painted pin striped lines which mimic the ebony inlay to the cabinet doors. The cabinet also features a large moulded front secret drawer above the safe which is complete with a removable red felt drawer liner.
The safe is finished all over externally in a black hand-polished single stage paint (not lacquered) exactly as it would have been originally. The safe is complemented by the ornate traditionally hand-painted white and red coach lines which elegantly frames the moulded front door. This safe has been fully restored from bare metal, having been stripped and linished to ensure the highest quality refurbishment possible. The safes paint has then been polished to a deep shine and waxed to protect the paintwork, the lovely original brasswork has then been highly polished.
The amazing solid brass knob reminds usof a bolt action rifle as the mechanism is sturdy and has a satisfying latchingaction in a smoothly working order. The external lock is working smoothly with 2keys (1 original) and the brass keyhole escutcheon has a lovely pivoting lid which has 'Griffiths Cannon street' cast into it. The inside of thesafe is painted in a rich red paint colour. Inside the safe is a full height central division with an internal secure lockable drawer (with 2 keys) and is complete with the original polished brass dropper handle and brass lock.
Inside the safe we have also added red felt removable liners to keep your valuables and the safe itself protected from scratches or damage when items are stored inside.
This safe is ideal forstoring important paperwork, house deeds, birth certificates, passports, cash, jewellery or anything else of value and is obviously rather safe. This safe would look fabulous in a traditional home study of office of any period or vintage themed home and could certainly be an interesting talkingpoint.
Please note; This itemis in very good condition for its age but will obviously have the odd blemishand scuff here and there. However, we feel that this adds to the charm andauthenticity of the item with it being Antique.
