Vintage Reproduction Antique Canterbury.

A charming piece.

This is a lovely example of a reproduction antique beautifully carved Canterbury made from solid Mahogany in around the 1980's. The Canterbury was first introduced in the late 18th Century Georgian period and got its name from the first commissioned piece by the Archbishop of Canterbury for storing sheet music. The Canterbury was popular throughout the 19th Century Victorian and later Edwardian periods in Britain as an occasional piece of furniture that could be used in the living room to hold newspapers magazines or booklets.
This great Canterbury is a vintage reproduction of an antique and has its original polish throughout complete with its lovely Mahogany colour and antiqued finish. This antique style Canterbury is very decorative being hand carved throughout complete with fretwork and quality turnings between the divisions. It has three ornate divided compartments which are perfect for magazines, books and newspapers. The base contains a quality dovetail constructed drawer with turned knobs which works smoothly and is clean inside. The drawer could provide the perfect storage solution for remote controls. The whole piece stands on finely turned and fluted legs.
This lovely piece would make an elegant addition to any period or contemporary themed home as it is small and decorative but also provides very useful storage.
We have just carefully cleaned and waxed this item to enhance the polished surface and preserve it for many years to come.
This stool is in amazing condition for its age as shown by the photographs however being a Vintage item there may be blemishes and scuffs here and there.
